Maurice Revello Tournament top 100 players : 75th to 71st
On the occasion of its 50th edition, which will take place from 3 to 16 June 2024, the Maurice Revello Tournament is opening its history book. Since it was founded in 1967, the competition has seen many talented players. More than 2,000 have gone on to become senior internationals, and some of them have written football history. To celebrate its anniversary, the Tournament is updating its top 100, created in 2017. Until 29 March, our website will be displaying the updated rankings of the 100 greatest players to have taken part in the Tournament. And it continues today, with the rankings from 75th to 71st place.
75th : Juninho Pernambucano (Brazil) - 1995
In 1995, Brazil won the Maurice Revello Tournament for the fourth time in their history. It was a deserved triumph, given the Seleção's imperious record during the competition: five games, five wins, eleven goals scored and none conceded... One player in the team stood out from the rest: Juninho. The midfielder shone with his activity in midfield and even scored twice. It was again in France, in the early 2000s, that he made his name. After arriving at Olympique Lyonnais in 2001, the Brazilian stayed for eight seasons, racking up 344 appearances, 100 goals and 11 trophies, including seven consecutive league titles. Enough to make him a Lyon legend.
74th : Frédéric Kanouté (France) - 1998
A few weeks before winning the world title on home soil, the French U-21 team took part in the Maurice Revello Tournament with a number of future internationals, including Louis Saha, Mikaël Silvestre, Mickael Landreau, Ousmane Dabo and Frédéric Kanouté. Before playing for Mali, the striker took part in the Tournament with Les Bleuets, losing that year's final to Argentina. It was the start of a fine career for the OL player, who also played for West Ham, Tottenham and Sevilla FC. During seven seasons with the Andalusian club, he piled up the goals (136 in 209 games) and the trophies, winning the Europa League twice. With 23 goals in 39 caps, he is also the second-highest scorer in the history of the Mali national team.

73rd : Fernandinho (Brazil) - 2004
Beaten by France in the semi-final and then by China in the match for 3rd place, Brazil fell just short of the podium at the 2004 Maurice Revello Tournament. In their ranks, however, were several future internationals such as Filipe Luis, Jô, Diego Alves and Fernandinho. Fernandinho, who scored twice in the tournament, moved to Europe a year later to play for Shakhtar Donetsk. In Ukraine, he became an accomplished player, making almost 300 appearances in eight seasons. It was enough to convince Manchester City to invest in him. He arrived in the North of England in 2013 and stayed until 2022, making 383 appearances and winning 14 titles. With the Seleção, he won the Copa America in 2019.
72nd : João Cancelo (Portugal) - 2014
Alongside Bruno Fernandes, João Cancelo and Portugal finished third in the 2014 edition of the Maurice Revello Tournament. The full-back played for Benfica, his first club, but his career took him to the four corners of Europe, to clubs as prestigious as each other: Valencia, Inter Milan, Juventus, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona. That's quite a CV for the Portuguese international, who has won a total of eleven trophies with his various clubs. Caped 50 times by the national side, he competed at the World Cup in 2022.
71st : Mikaël Silvestre (France) - 1997 & 1998
Winner in 1997, finalist in 1998. Mikaël Silvestre is one of the rare players to have featured in two consecutive finals of the Maurice Revello Tournament. He was part of a triumphant golden generation in 1997, alongside Thierry Henry, David Trezeguet, Nicolas Anelka, William Gallas and Willy Sagnol. A year later, Silvestre, Saha, Landreau and Les Bleuets were beaten in the final by Argentina. The defender then embarked on a very successful career, which began with Stade Rennais and continued with Inter, Manchester United and Arsenal, among others. It was with the Red Devils that he enjoyed his most successful spell, making 361 appearances and winning eleven trophies in nine seasons.
