Maurice Revello Tournament top 100 players : 90th to 86th

On the occasion of its 50th edition, which will take place from 3 to 16 June 2024, the Maurice Revello Tournament is opening its history book. Since it was founded in 1967, the competition has seen many talented players. More than 2,000 have gone on to become senior internationals, and some of them have written football history. To celebrate its anniversary, the Tournament is updating its top 100, created in 2017. Until 29 March, our website will be displaying the updated rankings of the 100 greatest players to have taken part in the Tournament. And it continues today, with the rankings from 90th to 86th place.

90th : Kevin Gameiro (France) - 2007

He only features in 90th place in this ranking, but Kevin Gameiro has left a lasting mark on the history of the Tournament. In 2007, he won the competition with the French team. Named the tournament's best player, he went on to become a legend thanks to a unique performance in the final. Against China, the striker scored a hat-trick and remains to this day the only player to have achieved such a feat in a Tournament final. With 5 goals, he also finished as top scorer and could embark on a career that took him to PSG and Sevilla FC, where he won the Europa League twice.

89th : Martin Keown (England) - 1987

Although England's performance in the 1987 tournament was not their best (4th place), they did have two outstanding talents in their ranks that year: Paul Gascoigne and Martin Keown. The latter was already playing for Arsenal, where he was to become a veritable legend. With almost 500 appearances in just over ten seasons for the Gunners, the defender went down in the history of the London club, including a place in the famous Invincibles team of 2004. He also won 43 caps for the Three Lions.

88th : Adrien Rabiot (France) - 2014

In 2014, a familiar face to fans of Ligue 1 was part of the French squad for the Tournament. With his hair and tall stature, Adrien Rabiot did not go unnoticed, having already shone for Paris Saint-Germain over the past season. After he lost in the Tournament final against Brazil, the midfielder continued his progression at the capital club, where he played more than 200 games and piled up 15 trophies before joining Juventus in 2019. With Les Bleus, Rabiot won 42 caps and took part in the 2022 World Cup.

87th : Djibril Cissé (France) - 2001

Beaten by Colombia in the semi-final, the French team finished 3rd in the 2001 Maurice Revello Tournament. In its ranks were several future internationals such as Alou Diarra, Philippe Mexès and Djibril Cissé. The AJ Auxerre striker was heralded as one of the great prospects of French football in his position. His status was confirmed at the Tournament, when he finished top scorer with 3 goals. The Arles native went on to embark on a globetrotting career, with spells at Liverpool, Marseille, Lazio Rome, Panathinaikos and Al-Gharafa. After winning the Champions League with the Reds in 2005, he made 41 appearances for France.

86th : Filipe Luis (Brazil) - 2004

Fernandinho, Diego Alves, Jo, Filipe Luis... Despite a disappointing 4th place finish at the 2004 Maurice Revello Tournament, Brazil had a team that looked good on paper. While still playing in his native country's league, Filipe Luis took advantage of his participation in the Tournament to head for Europe and Ajax Amsterdam. Six years later, however, it was with Atlético Madrid that the left-back really made his mark. With over 300 appearances for the Colchoneros, he won six trophies, including two Europa League titles, and reached the Champions League final on two occasions. His international career was equally rich, with him making 44 appearances for the Seleção and winning the Copa America in 2019.
