Merih Demiral, the Turkish rock-solid defender lands in Serie A

Sassuolo have announced the signing of Merih Demiral from Alanyaspor. Captain of Turkey during the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018, the 20-year-old defender made a name for himself thanks to his performances in the Turkish top-flight.

Captain of the Turkish side that finished third at the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018, Merih Demiral distinguished himself during the competition thanks to notably to a fearsome aerial presence.

Since his participation at the Maurice Revello Tournament, the solid defender (1m93) made a name for himself in Turkey.  His convincing first half of the season in the Süper Lig with Alanyaspor (16 games started, 1 goal) allowed him to earn his first international cap with the Turkey senior national team on November against Ukraine (0-0).

The displays produced by the 20-year-old defender have attracted the interest from several European sides. Eventually, the Turkish youngster will continue his career in Italy.

Sassuolo, currently 11th in Serie A, announced the arrival of the Turkey new boy on loan with an obligatory option to buy. The latter is estimated at €7M according to local sources.

This transfer move sounds like a logical consequence for Demiral as he can discover one of the best leagues in the world in a team renowned for his youth policy.
