Glenn Middleton, the future of Rangers

Few months after taking part in the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018, Glenn Middleton is beginning to make a name for himself at Rangers. The legendary Scottish side has high hopes for the attacking midfielder.

A new generation of players led Scotland to the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018 semi-finals. The 19-year-old Michael Johnston, named third best player of the tournament, and the 17-year-old Bill Gilmour, named breakthrough player of the competition, have shone. But there were not the only ones. Glenn Middleton, aged only 18, played as well a key role in the Scotland’s run.

Few months later, the Northampton-born is starting to impress with Rangers. “He's obviously got himself a move to Rangers and is doing really well and he actually came to the Maurice Revello Tournament with us in the summer. There's been plenty of examples in the past where the perceived good young players don't quite take their opportunity. Glenn has certainly made a great start”, said the Scotland U21 head coach Scot Gemmill

Despite his young age, Middleton has enjoyed a dream start to life at Rangers. The young winger has scored in every game he started : he has notably netted a brace against Ayr United (4-0) in League Cup and netted his first European goal against Spartak Moscow (3-4) in Europa League.

Meanwhile, the Scottish winger has scored his first goals in the Scottish Premier League against Dundee (4-0) and then Motherwell (7-1).

So far, he has scored 5 goals in 448 minutes played in all competitions which means a goal netted every 90 minutes.

Obviously, he has been praised for his latest performances. Notably by his coach Steven Gerrard. "He's doing everything he can to force his way in. He's a terrific finisher and you always get judged as an attacking player on goals and assists", told the former Liverpool legend to Rangers TV.

Except having regular first-team football, Middleton has also been rewarded recently by a contract extension until 2023. A clear message sent by the Gers…
