Named Maurice Revello Tournament 2018 best player, Diego Lainez has penned a five-and-a-half-year contract with Betis Sevilla.

At only 18, Diego Lainez has taken the Liga MX by storm. Now, his challenge will be to seduce the European football observers, especially the Liga fans.

Recently crowned Mexico champion with Club America, the starlet Diego Lainez has moved from his childhood club Club America to Betis. Rivaled by Lyon and Ajax Amsterdam, the Sevilla-based club has eventually signed Lainez on a €15M-deal.
The Mexico international (2 caps) has signed for the Spanish side until June 2024.

This arrival in Europe is a logical consequence for Lainez who enjoyed an astonishing rise over the last months. He has notably shown off his huge potential during the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018.

The trio formed by Carlos Antuna, Eduardo Aguirre and Lainez has led Mexico to the final. The 18-yer-old attacking midfielder added a touch of fantasy to “El Tri”.

If Mexico lost the final against England (1-2), Lainez has been handed the tournament’s best player award on 9th June, the day of his eighteenth birthday.

As mentioned by ESPN, his performances during the Maurice Revello Tournament have attracted the interest from a number of European sides, including his future club Betis Sevilla. The next months have been the opportunity to continue his astonishing rise.

Following the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018, Lainez made his senior debut with Mexico against Uruguay before winning his first major trophy on December with Club America : the Liga MX. He contributed to this title as he has been decisive during the semi-finals against Pumas UNAM by scoring during the first leg (1-1) and then in the second leg (6-1).

The Villahermosa-born has enjoyed a tremendous start to career. Now, the Betis fans are hoping to see Lainez fulfilling his huge potential with the Spanish side.
