Vitinha, Guéhi, Hatate… The Maurice Revello Tournament graduates burst onto the international scene

Each international break is the opportunity for several players who took part in the Maurice Revello Tournament to make their international debut. Over the last days, some of them earned their first international cap.

Vitinha (Portugal)

The young midfielder, who is shining this a season with FC Porto, was initially called-up with the Portuguese U-21 team before joining the senior side following the Ruben Neves injury. Fernando Santos decided to call up the player who had featured in the 2019 Maurice Revello Tournament as a back-up. He was benched against Turkey (2-1), but came on in the final of the play-offs for the 2022 World Cup against Northern Macedonia on Tuesday (3-0). A first cap celebrated in the best way with a qualification for the next World Cup, which Vitinha will aspire to participate.

Marc Guehi
 (England)

What a season for the Crystal Palace defender. For his first full season in the Premier League, the 21-year-old centre-back has had an amazing 2021-2022 season, contributing to the Eagles' fine form. The first international cap was the icing on the cake in Saturday's 2-1 win over Switzerland. A beautiful and just reward for the player who passed through the Tournament in 2019.

Kyle Walker-Peters
 (England)

Like Guehi, the right-back is having a great season at Southampton. It's no surprise to see him join the Three Lions at the age of 24. He started against Switzerland and then came on as a substitute against Côte d'Ivoire at Wembley on Tuesday (3-0). The winner of the 2018 Maurice Revello Tournament with England's U21s took advantage of the international break to earn his first two caps.

Ondrej Lingr
 (Czech Republic)

The 23-year-old midfielder has had an excellent season with Slavia Prague and has finally made his debut on the international stage. The midfielder came on as a substitute against Sweden (0-1) in the semi-final of the play-offs, but this first appearance will have a bitter taste as the Czechs saw their dreams of the 2022 World Cup disappear. The player who featured in the Tournament in 2017 was able to celebrate his first start for the national team five days later during the draw with Wales in a friendly (1-1).

Reo Hatate
 (Japan)

Only three months in Europe, and here is the striker already in the national team ! Arrived during the winter transfer window at Celtic, the player who reached the final of the Tournament in 2019 has waited only a few weeks to honor his first cap with Japan. It was this Tuesday during the draw of the Samurai Blue against Vietnam (1-1). A result without consequence, since the Nipponese had secured their qualification for the World Cup five days before by beating Australia at home (2-0).

Josue Colman
 (Paraguay)

Six years after his participation in the Maurice Revello Tournament with Paraguay, the midfielder has finally joined the senior national team. Although the Albirroja were already out of the running for a place at the World Cup, they played to the end, beating Ecuador (3-1) before losing to a Peru side overjoyed by a possible play-off place (0-2). The Club Guarani player took advantage of these two games to make his first appearance for the national team, coming on as a substitute on both occasions.

Antoine Conte
 (Guinea)

After having worn the jersey of the French team in youth categories and in particular during the 2014 Maurice Revello Tournament, the 28-year-old defender made the choice to join the Guinean national team. The former Paris Saint-Germain player celebrated his first cap on Friday against South Africa (0-0).

Sehrou Guirassy
 (Guinea)

Like Antoine Conte, the Stade Rennais striker has also opted for Guinea after a spell with Les Bleuets. The top scorer of the 2016 Maurice Revello Tournament also celebrated his first selection against the South Africans. The 26-year-old striker is a welcome addition to the Syli National team.
