The long wait is finally over ! After spending fifteen years without winning an African trophy, Raja Casablanca lifted the CAF Confederation Cup on this week-end. Despite their 1-3 loss to the Congolese side AS Vita Club in the final second leg, the Moroccans earned the title thanks to their 3-0 win in the final first leg.
Captain of Raja Casablanca, Badr Banoun played a key role in this winning run. This continental trophy capped a remarkable 2018 year for the Maurice Revello Tournament 2015 runner-up.
At the beginning of the year, the 25-year-old defender has won the CHAN, the African Nations Championship featuring only local players, with Morocco. The defender has been named as well in the best XI of this competition recognized by FIFA since 2014.
Just after that, the Morocco international (7 caps) has confirmed his good form with his club like illustrated by the winner netted during the derby between Raja and Wydad Casablanca (2-1).
Unfortunately for him, Banoun has faced a setback before the summer. Named in the 26-man provisional squad for the World Cup, he has been eventually dropped from the Morocco’s final list.
Now, Banoun has put this setback behind him like illustrated by his recent success in the CAF Confederation Cup.
