Biteco et Chapecoense reach their first ever Copa Sudamericana final

What a wonderful story ! In 2009, Chapecoense were still playing in the fourth division of Brazilian football. 7 years later, the Chapecó-based club reached the Copa Sudamericana final (the South America equivalent of the Europa League) for the first time of their history.

The Brazilians secured a final spot as they beat the Argentinian side San Lorenzo during the semi-finals thanks to the away goals rule (1-1 during the first leg, 0-0 in the second leg). Matheus Biteco, winner of the Toulon Tournament 2013, helped his team to advance to the final as the 21-year-old midfielder has played 6 Copa Sudamericana games as a starter during this campaign.

Chapecoense will face Atletico Nacional in the final. The first leg will be played on November 30 in Colombia while the second leg will be held in Brazil on December 07.
