Cornelius named Canadian young player of the year !

The Canada Soccer Association has organized the 26th edition of the Canada Soccer Player Awards, rewarding the Canadian players who have shone during the year.

Derek Cornelius is among the players rewarded. The 21-year-old solid defender, who has produced some convincing displays during the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018, has been named Canadian young player of the year !

“Derek Cornelius came into the March camp in Spain with the Men’s National Team and showed a lot of maturity and composure for a young player which led us into the Maurice Revello Tournament in May and June where he took the captain’s armband and helped us to achieve some pretty remarkable results. He has strong character and a drive to reach the top so we hope he can continue to progress”, said the Canada senior national team head coach John Herdman.

Following his participation to the Maurice Revello Tournament 2018, the Javor Ivanjica player (Serbia) has made his international debut on September with the Canada senior team during the Nations League game against US Virgin Islands.

So far, Cornelius has three caps to his name.
