Candreva, Falcao, Fernandes… they distinguished themselves during the first half of the season

As the calendar year draws to a close, we take a look at the performances made by some former Toulon Tournament players during the first half of the 2017-2018 season.

Ederson Moraes (Manchester City) : The Brazil international became the second-most expensive keeper ever this summer (behind the legendary Gianluigi Buffon) after his move from Benfica to Manchester City. The Toulon Tournament 2014 winner has quickly met the expectations as he already kept 8 clean sheets in the Premier League since the start to the season.

Antonio Candreva (Inter Milan) : The 30-year-old right winger is in the form of his life. The Italy international (52 caps, 7 goals) is leading the Serie A assists charts with 8 assists. Candreva has notably made the difference during the big games like against AS Roma (3-1) as well as during the derby against AC Milan (3-2).

Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli) : Thanks to their exciting offensive style of play, Napoli are currently leading the Serie A table. Meanwhile, the Senegalese defender has asserted himself as the leader of the Napoli’s back-line. The 26-year-old has also distinguished himself offensively as he scored three goals in the Italian top-flight this season.

Radamel Falcao (Monaco) : His 2016-2017 season was fantastic with a French Ligue 1 title and 30 goals scored in 43 games in all competitions. His 2017-2018 campaign is impressive as the Colombian star netted 15 goals in 16 Ligue 1 games !

Steven Berghuis (Feyenoord) : The Netherlands international (11 caps) has been in devastating form over the last months. The 26-year-old forward, who played the Toulon Tournament 2012, is the Eredivisie’s current top scorer with 11 goals.

Bruno Fernandes (Sporting Portugal) : Since joining Sporting Portugal this summer from Sampdoria, Bruno Fernandes is in a scintillating form. The 22-year-old midfielder, who took part in the Toulon Tournament 2014, is impressing the observers as he registered 7 goals and 3 assists in 15 Liga NOS games this season.

Gael Clichy (Istanbul Basaksehir) : After a successful spell in England, the Frenchman has decided to join this summer Istanbul Basaksehir, one of the emerging clubs in Turkey. The 32-year-old left-back seems to have adapted quickly to his new club as he has delivered four assists since the start to the season. No defender has managed more assists in the Süper Lig this season so far.

Ruud Vormer (Club Bruges) : The Blauw en Zwart are currently at the top of the Belgian league with an eleven-point-margin over second-placed Charleroi. One player symbolizes the Club Brugge’s dominance : the captain Ruud Vormer. The 29-year-old Dutch midfielder has already delivered 15 assists in the Pro League this season. Nobody has registered more assists than him in the Belgian top-flight this season.
