World Cup U20 : Japan claim historic triumph, a fourth-place finish for the country host France

Japan clinched their first ever World Cup U20 title, ending Spain’s dream of a first title with a 3-1 win. Few hours early, England record their best ever World Cup finish win a victory over France during the third-place playoff.

Spain – Japan : 1-3

The clash between the European champions and the Asian champions has ended on the victory of Japan. The Young Nadeshiko lifted the World Cup U20 trophy for the first time ever thanks to spectacular goals from Hinata Miyazawa, Saori Takarada et Fuka Nagano. The FC Barcelona starlet Candela Andujar reduced the deficit but it wasn’t enough to stop Japan claiming the title, two years after the triumph of North Korea.

France – England : 1-1 (2-4 pen)

The Young Lionesses have beaten the country host to clinch the third place : this is the best performance ever made by England in this competition. However, Les Bleuettes were the first to create the danger but both Laurent and Zamanian missed their chances. In the second half, the Manchester City promising forward Georgia Stanway netted the opener in a fashion way but Emelyne Laurent responded quickly to this goal by scoring a penalty. The winners had to be decided on a penalty shootout and England eventually won the game.
