World Cup U20 : Laurent hits the ground running, Sanders liberates Germany

The U20 Women’s World Cup is held in France from 5th to 24th August. It should be noted that 64 players who took part in the Sud Ladies Cup compete in the World Cup. Throughout the competition, we will take look at their performances !

France-Ghana : 4-1

The country host started well ! Les Bleuettes secured the win quickly as they boasted a three-goal-lead at the half-time thanks notably to Emelyne Laurent. The latter, who has been impressive few weeks ago during the Sud Ladies Cup 2018, has netted a brace. Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Selma Becha have shone as well as both have delivered an assist

Standings Group A : France 3 pts, Netherlands 3 pts, New Zealand 0 pt, Ghana 0 pt.

United States-Japan : 0-1

Despite a higher ball possession and some big chances like the one created by Sophia Smith in the first half, USA have been defeatad by Japan. The Asians clinched the win thanks to a stunning strike from Honoka Hayashi with fourteen minutes remaining.

Standings Groupe C : Spain 3 pts, Japan 3 pts, United States 0 pt, Paraguay 0 pt.

Nigeria-Germany : 0-1

On fire with Werder Bremen over the last months, Stefanie Sanders confirmed her good form as she netted the winner. The 20-year-old found the net from close range after 69 minutes.

Haiti-China : 1-2

The Haitians lost their first World Cup game ever. The goal scored by Nerilia Mondesir in the second half wasn’t enough to help his side to secure a point…
