Le Costa Rica se relance face aux Etats-Unis
Plus tranchants dans leurs offensives, les Costariciens sont récompensés en milieu de première période. A l’entrée de la surface, Matarrita (CRC, 20) enroule parfaitement et trouve le petit filet d’Horton (USA, 12), totalement battu. Mais les Américains ne baissent pas les bras et répliquent six minutes plus tard. L’enchaînement contrôle / frappe de Morris (USA, 9) est superbe mais vient mourir sur le poteau. Alashe (USA, 13) a suivi et pousse le ballon au fond pour égaliser.
Le deuxième acte démarre aussi fort que le premier. Le centre de Mora (CRC, 15) trouve la tête de Ramirez (CRC, 7) au second poteau mais le montant vient priver le joueur d’Evian Thonon Gaillard de donner l’avantage aux siens. Mais ce n’est que parti remise. Idéalement servi en profondeur, Ramirez (CRC, 7) remporte cette fois son duel avec le portier adverse d’un plat du pied qui trouve la lucarne.
Le match devient de plus en plus rugueux, les contacts pleuvent et le jeu est souvent interrompu par l’arbitre qui distribue les cartons jaunes. Les occasions sont beaucoup plus rares et le temps tourne en faveurdes hommes de Fallas Arrias. Deux ultimes sauvetages de Martinez Ca. (CRC, 1) devant Kiesewetter (USA, 17) puis face à Packwood (USA, 5) assurent au Costa-Rica la victoire, qui se relance dans cette poule A.

Costa Rica, led by Ramirez, beat USA
The first half is very lively. Early in the game, the Robinson's (USA, 18) header is saved on the line by the Costa Rica defense. Then, Ramirez (CRC, 7) gets two chances to open the score. First, a shot from distance which finished juste wide to the left post. Few minutes later, he send a shot from the box but it wasn't powerful and the American goalkeeper saves it. Costa Ricans dominates the game and are rewarded after 22 minutes. Thanks to a curling free-kick, Matarrita (CRC, 20) opens the scoring. Americans don’t adbdicate and equalize six minutes later. Morris' (USA, 9) shot finds the post but Alashe (USA 13) follows and scores.
During the second half, Costa Rica had a real chance to take the lead. Mora (CRC, 15) crosses to Ramirez (CRC, 7). The Evian TG's forward send a header but it hit the post ! The striker will finally score few minutes later. He’s played in the box and he sends a curved shot into the top corner. Then, There are a lot of fouls in the second half and the referee distributes several yellow cards.
Juste before the end of the game, two last saves of Martinez Ca. (CRC, 12) front of Kiesewetter (USA, 17) and Packwood (USA, 5) guarantee the win of Costa Rica.
