Best XIs of the Maurice Revello Tournament : Colombia (11/12)

A few weeks before its 47th edition, from 1st to 15th June, the Maurice Revello Tournament goes back in time. Since 1967, thousands of players have trodden the Festival’s pitches. Among them, nearly 2000 became international within the sixty-five different nations who have taken part in the competition. To travel through the Tournament’s fifty years of history, each one marked by some famous football players at their debuts, we have imagined twelve dream teams, country by country. Tenth best XI, Colombia.

Luis Enrique Martinez (2001) : Named best goalkeeper of the Maurice Revello Tournament 2001, he helped Colombia to finish second just behind Portugal in this edition. Then, he continued his career in Colombia, Costa Rica and Turkey. He was the starting keeper for Colombia at the Copa America 2011. Earlier, he made the headlines by scoring a goal in a friendly against Poland in 2006.

Santiago Arias (2010 and 2011) : His first participation to the Maurice Revello Tournament 2010 was marked by a fifth place with Colomba. The next year, he clinched the title. At that moment he was playing for local side La Equidad. Then, he enjoyed a successul career, playing for Sporting Lisbon, PSV and now Atletico Madrid !

Iván Córdoba (1996) : When he played the Maurice Revello Tournament 1996, we didn't know that the Atletico Nacional 20-year-old starlet will turn into an Inter Milan legend. He played 455 games with the Italian side, winning five Scudetti, four Italian cups, four Italian Supercups, one Champions League and a FIFA Club World Cup.

Davinson Sánchez (2014) : Like his famous predecessor, Cordoba, Davinson Sanchez started his career at Atletico Nacional. In 2016, he crossed the Atlantic Ocean to join Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam. After helping them to reach a League Europa final, he signed for his current club Tottenham.

Cristián Zapata (2004 et 2006) : The solid defender is currently playing at AC Milan. Before that, he played for Villarreal, Udinese and Deportivo Cali. He has 56 internationals caps to his name with Colombia and played the Maurice Revello Tournament twice : in 2004 and 2006.

Pablo Armero (2006) : The left full-back took part in the Maurice Revello Tournament when he was playing for America de Cali. He left his native country in 2009 when he moved to Brazilian side Palmeiras before joining Udinese in 2010. Then, he has played for several clubs : Napoli, West Ham, AC Milan, Flamengo, Bahia before retuning to his childhood club América de Cali.

Fredy Guarín (2004 and 2006) : The midfielder moved to Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua since 2016. Before that, he has enjoyed a trophy-laden spell in Europe, winning eleven trophies. He has notably won the Europa League 2011 and two league titles with FC Porto between 2009 and 2011.

Abel Aguilar (2003 et 2006) : Colombians like to finish where all started like illustrated once again by Abel Aguilar. When he made his first appaerance at the Maurice Revello Tournament in 2003, he was playing for Deportivo Cali. Since 2016, he has returned to his childhood club. Between that, the midfelder played in Italy, Spain, France, Portugal and earned 70 international caps.

James Rodríguez (2011) : Named best player of the Maurice Revello Tournament 2011, we've had the chance to see him playing in the French league during the 2013-2014 campaign under the AS Monaco shirt. After shining at the World Cup 2014, he signed for Real Madrid, then he joined Bayern Munich.

Edwin Cardona (2010 and 2011) : Seen at the Maurice Revello Tournaments 2010 and 2011, Edwin Cardona has always played in the Americas. After playing at Atletico Nacional, Santa Fe, Junior, Monterrey (Mexico) and Boca Juniors (Argentina), he has returned to the Liga MX as he is playing now for Pachuca.

Radamel Falcao (2004) : Maurice Revello Tournament 2004 wasn't the best edition for Colombia as they finished sixth. But it was the opportunity to discover a future world-class striker : Radamel Falaco, when he was only 18. After playing at the tournament, he stayed five years with River Plate before signing for FC Porto in 2009. Then, he made a name for himself thanks to his goals with Porto, Atletico Madrid and AS Monaco.
